Another big month for our 16 pound 4 ounce (70th percentile) munchkin. Rilynn has moved into her own bedroom and sleeps in her crib like a big girl! Hurray! It only took her a few nights to adjust and stop waking us up every hour, but she finally got used to her new sleeping arrangement. She still wakes up to eat once a night. She thinks she should wake up at 5 am, but I don't do that, so we snuggle in the mornings so I can sleep. Her naps are longer and more frequent which helps me to get some things done during the day. She started on prunes because her rice cereal caused a back up. Baby guacamole (avacado watered down with breast milk) is also a new favorite. I made it through two and a half weeks of teaching and couldn't be happier to be done and back with my best little buddy every day. I think she feels the same. I gave my notice that I will not be back teaching next year. We are going to take it one year at a time to see how long I stay home. Teaching 8, 9, and 10 year olds was so much fun and I'm sure I will be back to teaching something in someway, someday, but for now, I am so happy with my decision to stay home with Rilynn. We celebrated Travis's first Father's Day and boy does he deserve Dad of the year. He is so helpful and loving towards Rilynn and me. He has been our rock through all of the hip stuff. I cry and get angry and he stays calm and logical. We've been able to get a few nights out on our own which has been so much fun and a much needed stress reliever. One thing I learned after a night out at our friends Cliff and Kinsey's wedding is how much worse a hangover is when you have a baby and how incredibly low my alcohol tolerance is since I didn't drink much that night and still had a hangover. We took another trip to Black Butte where Ri did some more swimming.
Talents: Rolls front to back and back to front, squealing, makes the sweetest sounding noises, pulling on noses, and turning pages in her books (just not always when I'm finished reading the page).
Rilynn loves: Any toy that she can put in her mouth, mirrors, petting Josie (our dog), faces (especially pulling on noses), eating from a spoon, rolling around, and being tickled makes her laugh.
Hips: Surgery is on Wednesday, July 2nd at Doernbecher Children's Hospital. We will be getting there bright and early at 6 am to prepare for her 7:30 am surgery. We are first to go since she is the youngest kid of the day. We tried out 2 orthopedic surgeons and picked our favorite, who had a daughter with bilateral hip dysplasia, and felt that we connected well with him. All was set to go until I got the call that he was having surgery himself and would out on leave. So we have the other guy. I'm sure this doctor will be just fine, but we just can't seem to catch a break and have things go our way with this. We are hoping that our luck will begin and BOTH hips will go into place easily. We've started preparing for the spica cast by purchasing fun toys, new contraptions for her to "sit" in, lots of dresses, and a cast cooler. The hospital will provide us with a rental car seat, but other than that, we are on our own for figuring out how to make her comfortable. We will most likely be staying the night in the hospital on Wednesday night to get her pain under control. I will post an update as soon as I can after her closed-reduction to let everyone know if it was successful and how she's doing.
