Thirty-Five Weeks!

Happy New Year!

2014 will bring a whole new adventure for us that we can't wait to start!
We are getting so excited to meet our little bug, we can hardly stand it!  I don't want her to come too soon, but I sure hope she doesn't make us wait until February to meet her!  This week my biggest fear is that she comes out she isn't a she... she's a boy.  First, my cousin, Laura had a dream that she saw Travis with the baby and it was a boy.  Then, my grandpa said he is positive that the baby is a boy.  They've got me worried!  But then again, Grandpa is well into his 80s and probably isn't at his sharpest thinking.  Well, we had a great Christmas and our little GIRL has already been spoiled.  In fact, below is a picture of the HUGE teddy bear that Aunt Sadie just couldn't resist getting her.
This week to prepare for her we have:
  • Found our pediatrician
  • Washed all of her things... I've never done an all pink load before now
  • Called to set up an appointment to have our car seat installed at the fire station
  • Travis put together all of her gear
  • Looked at our name list... didn't make much progress
Giant Teddy Bear hanging out in the crib.
All pink load of laundry.

Thirty-Four Weeks! Maternity Photos

 Merry Christmas!
Our last Christmas just the two of us will be celebrated Christmas Eve by attending mass with my family and having dinner and family time with Travis's family and Christmas day with my family.  I'm getting very excited to have a little one around next Christmas to start some new family traditions.
At my last appointment with my midwife, I was told no exercising for 2 weeks, which was kind of a bummer, but like Travis told her, it didn't completely break my heart.  So to fill my time I've written our birth plan, packed her hospital bag (still need to pack mine, but I think I'll wait a little longer), and started washing her clothes, blankets, sheets, and stuff.
A little holiday treat from Ruby Jewel.

Pittock Mansion decorated for Christmas.
We got our maternity photos back from the very talented Lindsey Ring!  We had them taken over the Thanksgiving weekend in Black Butte.  Here they are!

~The Nursery~

The Nursery
The nursery is finally ready for her! We went back and forth between ideas and are so happy with how it turned out!  Travis has been so helpful getting everything hung and put together.  The finishing touches were finished today by Travis and Grandpa (Travis's dad);they hung up my fence board LOVE sign and added uplighting with a dimming switch above the armoire for late night feedings.  A big thanks to Mimmi for painting the walls and the armoire and Aja for helping bring all the furniture into the room.  The room is perfect.

We went with lots of pink and yellow with some green accents.
Her crib with pottery barn bedding.

The dresser I bought off Craigslist and painted yellow that used to be in our guest room will now be a changing table.

The armoire we found on Craiglist, nursing chair from my cousin April, and Pinterest inspired fencing sign that April and I made over the summer.  The pink blanket was a Christmas gift I got from Grandma (Travis's mom) many years back.

Inside the armoire there is yellow and grey shelf liner in the back.  Some of our favorite outfits are hung and the rest of her clothes and accessories are in the baskets.

Above her bed, I bought some cute fabrics and embroidery hoops and did some crafting.
The details
Mirror from Target, shelf from my mom's house, and some of my tea set collection from when I was a kid.

Found this crate at Marshall's and loved the chalkboard on it.  It has some lotion, baby powder, diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer, and other fun baby products.

Knobs from Anthropologie.

Her Ralph Lauren "coming home" outfit from Debbie Haworth.

Gold lamp that used to be in our guest room.

Cute painting I found at Target.

Closer view of my craftiness.

Her first doll from Nanny (my dad's mom) and blankie from the Arnotts.

Jar of binkis and picture frame waiting for her first photo.

Thirty-three weeks!

7 weeks until her due date.  I've already had several talks with her about how it is always polite to arrive a bit early... not too early when people are still getting ready, but if you are on time, you're practically late.  I hope she starts off listening to me, but if she is anything like her Mimmi (my mom) she will be at least a week late.
This week I attended a breastfeeding class... alone.  I told Travis I didn't think he needed to go since, well it's a breastfeeding class.  I arrived and was the ONLY person in the class who's "partner" wasn't there.  My instructor was very concerned that I didn't have a supportive partner in this and brought it up 3 times.  She will also be the instructor at the newborn care class that we are attending in January... I'm sure she will be giving Travis a few judgmental looks.  Poor guy, he really is the best husband and dad to be ever, he was just listening to his wife. :)
This is the last week of school before winter break.  I will be taking advantage of my two weeks off by getting ready for her, having some me time, and having lots of time with my best friend/hubby!  Things will be pretty different from the last 13 years of just us.  This month marks 13 years (half of my life) since I met Travis; couldn't ask for a better best friend and life companion.
Updates

  • What I miss about not being pregnant... wearing regular clothes, being able to paint my own toe nails comfortably (I think I just gave myself my last pedicure, next month I'm going in to get them done), not bumping into students with my stomach, getting off the couch without having to put so much effort into it, and holiday cocktails
  • Sleep... I've always been a good sleeper, but having a good night's rest now includes 4 pillows perfectly positioned.  I have a wedge pillow to support my belly otherwise she gets stuck on one side, I have a pillow between my legs to position my back correctly, one for my head, and one to either prop me up on my side or elevate my head a little higher.  I get up once or twice a night to pee, which is better than the beginning where I think my record was 6, but before I was pregnant I never woke up at night.
  • Cravings... nothing, which is surprising because I love food so much!  But, I have enjoyed a few more Christmas cookies than I normally do. :)

Thirty-one and thirty-two weeks!

Updates:
Weight gain- 26 pounds.  Yikes!  In two weeks I gained about 6 pounds, thank you Thanksgiving dinner.  Before that I had been gaining about a pound a week.  My doctor said I've had a healthy weight gain, but she'd like to see me gain a bit more each week and that the 6 pounds was needed... easy for her to say, she isn't going to be working it off in a couple of months.  My face is getting rounder each day.  Wedding ring still fits the same as it always has.

Belly- No stretch marks.... yet, the black line is nice and black, and my belly button looks funny but it isn't hasn't popped out

Movement- She moves around all the time, but is still most active at night.  Her movements have become less intense as she becomes more crammed in there.  I feel her the most in my ribs and my bladder.

Josie- We can't decide how she will react.  I think she is going to be her usual dramatic self and act completely neglected, but also very protective.  I think she's going to think of the baby as her baby.  She LOVES spending time in the nursery and often whines at the door to go in and check it out.

Dreams- All of my dreams about her lately are right after delivery.  We are always writing down her birth date on a birth certificate form or a Facebook post or something and her birthday is always January 15.  Not sure how that date has been stuck in my dreams, but we will see.  My sister, Sadie had a dream that she came out with the face of a baby but the body of Josie... this just shows how obsessed with our dog our family is.

To do list:

  • Hospital tour
  • Pack hospital bag
  • Install car seat
  • Birthing classes
  • Pick her name
  • New parent child care class
  • Breastfeeding class
Who will our little lady look like?
Travis and I both have blue eyes, but that's about it.  I'm short and petite, he's tall and broad.  My hair is straight, his is wavy.  Will she get my dark hair and olive complexion or Travis's blonde hair, freckles, and rosie cheeks?  We cannot wait to see what she looks like!  Here's what we looked like as babes.

Thirty Weeks!

Thirty Weeks
We have done a lot of work in the nursery this weekend.  I cut off the tags from all of her clothes, hung up the cutest outfits, organized the dresser/changing table drawers, and hung up some DIY decorations.  Still a few more decorating things to do before it is done, but it is looking so cute!  Lots of pink and yellow in there.  I'm looking forward to wearing my maternity pants for Thanksgiving dinner, in fact I think I might keep them around to wear every Thanksgiving. We will be doing our typical Thanksgiving in Black Butte with my family and my Uncle Randy, Aunt Diana, and cousins Christian, Laura, and Elias.  Travis will probably golf with the guys in the freezing cold.  We will be taking our maternity photos in Black Butte this weekend, so expect a post with those next week!

Twenty-Nine Weeks!

Baby Shower Day
My sister and best friend gave me a beautiful baby shower at the Portland Golf Club today.  It was so much fun to spend time with everyone.  Travis and I are so blessed to have such a supportive group of friends and family.  We played some fun games including a price is right baby game where I had to either take a bite or give a bite of disgusting turkey mashed potato baby food (note to self, don't feed this to her unless using it as punishment) depending on if I got the answers right.
Other news this week, we are starting to add more details to the nursery.  Travis and our friend Kevin (who's wife is expecting twins) had a "man shower" weekend with some friends in Bend so I accomplished lots of errands and crafting for the room.  There is A LOT of pink in there!
At 29 weeks she weighs about two and a half pounds and measures over 15 inches.  I've read comparisons to a butternut squash and a cheesecake, I'd like to think of her as a cheesecake!
Sadie and me at my shower.
Taylor and me and my shower.
Some of the details from the shower!  It was SO cute.

On the fireplace is a collage of all of my chalkboard photos.

The favors were pink nail polish.

Everyone wrote us notes on diapers that we don't get to read until we use them.

Smashed candy bars in diapers.

Pink lemonade served in mason jars.
